I "Heart" Snow White...Valentines Crafting!

I "Heart" Snow White!

When blogging pal, Tammy, found this Snow White magazine cover for me on Pinterest I knew at that moment what my theme for Valentines crafting would be.  The first thing I did was print a larger version of this darling graphic on printable fabric and applique it to a white tee-shirt shirt to wear on my Valentines trip to Disneyland.  I will wear it with a red sweater or hoodie and everyone will stop me to ask which shop I found it in.  Lol...I just love messing with other Disney tourists.  If I am feeling especially obnoxious whimsical I will tell them I got it in a little shop in Fantasyland.

Snow White's Valentine Party...

Garden Party in a Chocolate Tin...

It took some searching on Pinterest, but I was able to find Snow White and all seven of the the Dwarves Valentines from 1938.  I just love the soft colors and Snow White's sweet expression. The tin was an oval about 10 inches long.  The cottage backdrop was from a Snow White playset I bought at Disneyland last fall.  I will be using the playset figures in another project.

The Dwarves are so cute and quirky!

Tiny Tea Cup Ornaments....

Tiny Tin Tea Cups Fairy Garden Ornaments.

I have been wanting to make some of these tin cup ornaments since I saw them on Pinterest.  They are inspired by "Dime Store Chic."  I was unable to find any of the cute little tin cups until a few weeks ago when one of my favorite bloggers, Meri of ImagiMeri's offered some for sale on Facebook.  I hope she likes what I did with them.  So far I have only made these two, but my daughter Sascha...who loves Alice in Wonderland...thought they would be cute using Alice figures for cake toppers.  I'm hoping there will be an Alice-themed wedding in the next couple of years.

The wee cups are only 2" across.
I want to attach them to ornament clips when I find some.

Snow White cake topper came with seven gnome-like dwarves.
The dwarves have little tools and wheel barrows.

A Fun Christmas Surprise!

Water Tower in Stanley's Oasis...Cars Land!

I just love Cars Land in Disney California Adventure.  They built the whole town of Radiator Springs...which amazes me.  You could spend a week there and never see all the detail built into that attraction.  The line for Radiator Springs Racers takes you into Stanley's Oasis which has a Route 66 vibe with its old garages and a building made out of vintage oil bottles.  Entering the Oasis, you pass by the cutest old water tank...the 8 and 3/4s Wonder of the World.  I just love everything about it.   This Christmas, my DIY DIL, Lori, surprised me with my very own Stanley's Oasis water tank.  I can't believe she made this for me!

Isn't it the cutest thing ever?

Haunted Mansion Shadow Box!

Haunted Mansion...How it appears in dreams.

Can you believe how quickly the month of October has passed?  It's practically half over!  I will soon be packing up my Halloween crafting supplies and moving on to Christmas.  I have a lot of gifts and such that I have committed myself to making this year.  I want to start giving more meaningful gifts.  My most treasured gifts in the past have been those that are hand-made.

I still have a few Halloween topics that I want to blog about...so I will try not to get into Christmas before the Haunted Mansion clock strikes thirteen!  I finally finished putting together the little Disney Halloween display in my office.

Haunted Mansion Holiday...
Jack Skellington welcomes guests to his Haunted Mansion Holiday.

Shadow box was a wooden tray.
Handles became windows.
Not seen are the teal shutters on the outside...like at Disneyland.

Putting the scene together.
I found the figures at Disneyland in the toy department of the Emporium.
I bought another set of Snow White figures for a Fairy Garden.

A fun little display to brighten my office!

Target Dollar Spot Craft....

I must have bought every one of these cute wooden signs at my Target.
I almost passed them by until I got the idea to decorate the unpainted back sides.

Wa La! Vintage Post Card Billboards.
I haven't done it yet...but you can make these into billboards that will fit into a Department 56 Halloween Village.  Just add a dowel or two and a base to make it balance.
Some painted stacked spools would work as well.

Two Posts in One Day!
I am on a Roll!

Note: Since horizontal postcards are harder to find...I have included a few of my favorites...enjoy!

Haunted Mansion Holiday... New Halloweenie!

Haunted Mansion Holiday!

We are leaving this morning for George's birthday trip to Disneyland.  This will be our first trip since March...I know!  We usually go once a month or so...that's how crazy we are!  This time of year the park is all decked out for Halloween.  I am hoping to get some inspiration for my "Haunted Mansion Holiday" theme I want to do in my office.  I've made a couple of things I can show you...just know it's a work in progress...

Desk top décor...just getting started.

The banners are made from a Halloween version of the Haunted Mansion wallpaper.  I hope to make a shadowbox scene based on "Nightmare Before Christmas."  I picked up a cool cemetery gate yesterday at Joann.  The store is selling Christmas and Halloween fairy garden accessories...with fun miniatures.

Each pennant has a Disney Halloween picture.  This one's so cute!

Wicked Treats!
"Wicked Witch Treat Shoppe"

My friend Lynn from the "Weinee Ranch" blog sent me a bunch of craft supplies one day.  This hideous witch head was included in the package.  I love it!  I bought a small carve-able pumpkin at Dollar tree and decided to make it into some kind of shadow box.  I don't know how I got the idea to make it into a candy shop...it kind of designed itself.  It's hard to find miniature candy that isn't Christmas colored, but I found some suckers and some candy-shaped buttons at Hobby Lobby.  The candy bars I made myself with little pieces of wood meant for doll-house shingles.  They are about 1 inch in length.

Fun-size candy!

Little Witch behind the counter.
Not quite to scale...but who cares, right?

Trick or Treaters Beware!

I wanted to show a few more new Halloweenies...but it's time to go.  I will have more things to share when I get back from the Happiest...Halloween...Place on Earth!

Happy Crafting!

Ray Bradbury's Halloween Tree!

Have you heard about The Halloween Tree?
"Suddenly the day was gone, night came out from under each tree and spread." -Ray Bradbury

A Tree Full of Jack-o-lanterns
I have always loved Ray Bradbury...but I had never heard about The Halloween Tree.  The book is a 1972 fantasy novel which traces the history of Samhain and Halloween.  Last year I wrote about the origin of Jack-o-lanterns, which was a lot of fun to research.  I am going to download this book to my Kindle.  The following plot summary is from Wikipedia:

Plot Summary:
A group of eight boys set out to go trick-or-treating on Halloween, only to discover that a ninth friend, Pipkin, has been whisked away on a journey that could determine whether he lives or dies.  Through the help of a mysterious character named Carapace Clavicle Moundshroud, they pursue their friend across time and space through Ancient Egyptian, Ancient Greek, and Roman Cultures, Celtic Druidism, Notre Dame Cathedral in Medieval Paris, and The Day of the Dead in Mexico.  Along the way, they learn the origins of the holiday that they celebrate, and the role that the fear of death, spooks, and the haunts has played in shaping civilization.  The Halloween Tree itself, with its many branches laden with jack-o-lanterns, serves as a metaphor for the historical confluence of these traditions.

Ray Bradbury's Halloween Tree
Just a few days ago I was sitting underneath this tree.  George was waiting out a bout of motion sickness...lol!  I told him that I really liked this tree...I loved the simplicity of a tree full of jack-o-lanterns.  I noticed a plaque at the base of the oak tree dedicated to Ray Bradbury's dream of a Halloween Tree.

A Tree Full of Jack-O-Lanterns

On October 31, 2007, Ray Bradbury attended the presentation of a Halloween Tree at Disneyland in California, to be included as part of their annual park-wide decorations every year.  When I read this, I couldn't wait to go home and make a simple version for my yard.

My Halloween Tree
I tried to just keep it simple...hanging a dozen little pumpkins in the tree.

These were 97 cent pumpkins from Walmart.
I would have bought more...but I bought all there were in a "normal" orange...lol!
The faces were done "free hand" with a sharpie...easiest project ever!

I was going to wait until tomorrow to publish this...then thought...why?

Happy Tuesday!

Note:  I tried to find The Halloween Tree on Amazon...but no luck.  Is it out of print?
