Patriotic Banner Swap...WWII Images!

World War II Images...Banner Swap!

My good friend Tammy of Tammy's In Love and I missed out on the Patriotic Banner Swap...so we decided to do one of our own.  The challenge was to use vintage WWII propaganda images.  Tammy chose some of my favorites as you will see further on...but my Disney loving heart just had to see what I could find Mickey-wise.

According to my old friend Wikipedia, "Between 1942 and 1945, during World War II, Walt Disney was involved in the production of propaganda films for the U.S. Government.  The widespread familiarity of Walt Disney's productions benefited the U.S. Government in producing pro-American war propaganda in an effort to increase support for the war."

My "Toons at War" Pennants.
I used a cool shield graphic I found on Pinterest.
The tag was a large brown craft paper about 5 x 11 in.

I turned the music upside down so the title would be visible.
...or else I goofed five times...lol!

Tammy's WWII Tags...

My package came wrapped in a map of Minnesota!
So clever...Tammy marked her house!
It's so nice to know our place on the planet.
I always have a map in my head of where I am..."You are Here!"

Buy War Bonds!

Clean your plate!

Plant a Victory Garden!

Loose Lips Sink Ships!

Eat M & M's...It's the Patriotic thing to do!

Tammy sent a lot of fun things in her package...like this cute
cowboy set ...a card and small gift box.
I have always loved vintage cowboy

I am so thankful for the friendship I have found in my little blogging circle.  Tammy has become such a good friend...it's almost as if we have always known each other.  She is my childhood friend...separated only by mountains and prairie.

Have a Fabulous Fourth!

I almost missed blogging for the Fourth...We have a couple of granddaughters spending the holiday with us and we've been doing all the nearby "touristy" things this week.

Home Town Tags...and more Halloween!

Be True to Your School...
I finally finished my tags for Tammy's Home Town Tag Swap.  Go here: Tammy's In Love to read how Tammy's home town is proud to be the home of  Hormel...makers of Spam!  This was a lot of fun...just what makes a home town special?  I wrote about mine about a week ago...How American Fork became Cavemen.  My own children didn't even know the connection!

Welcome to Timpanogos Cave!
While Fred Flintstone is NOT the mascot of Timpanogos Cave...we used him a lot for Homecoming posters and other high school activities.  Pebbles Flintstone was the emblem for the girls Letter sweaters.  I earned my letter in Drama...but sadly...could not afford the sweater.  I sent my tags on their way.  Thanks Tammy, for another fun and creative swap!  I just realized I forgot to put my name on my tags...yikes!  I was so eager to get them in the mail.

My Haunted Mansion!
Creepy!
I have been making paper mache houses for all the major holidays.  I did this one differently...using a torn "old newspaper" paper to decoupage the front and sides.  I used my Cricket to cut out window and door frames.

Detail of Front...
I decided to use the windows to frame a whole gallery of creepy Halloween photos I found on Pinterest.  The girl on the bottom has buttons for eyes like Coraline.

Back of House....

"Beware of Hitchhiking Ghosts!"
Back of House Detail...
I love this new photo commissioned by Disney...so I added it to the back of my "Haunted Mansion."  These are the "Hitchhiking Ghosts" portrayed by Jack Black, Will Ferrell and Jason Segal.  I love how transparent they are with the Haunted Mansion in the background.  They were the perfect spooky addition to my house!  I could have really gone to town with the decor...but sometimes I think less is more.  Unless it's vintage Christmas...then more is more!

Have a great day, my friends,
Don't let the crafty bug bite...too hard!

Box Lunch Social Tag Garland!

Friendship Garlands...
Copying Tammy's measuring tape and clothes pins...too cute not to!

I'm finally getting around to hanging my tags from Elizabeth's Box Lunch Social swap.  I've had a bad cold since last Thursday...so I haven't been posting...just lurking around the blogs.  There are several groups who are exchanging friendship cards that express the personality of their blogs.  I will be participating in a couple of these and I already know what to do...just need the energy to do it.

Not the best closeups, but the cards are so cute!
They came wrapped like sandwiches in the cutest red and white polka-dot box!
They were delicious! =D

Short and Sweet...
I will have more to post later....'til then...
Have a lovely (hot) day!

Cartoons...Part of This Complete Breakfast!

A 60's Saturday Morning...
Way back when...on a Saturday morning...we slurped down cereal in our footie jammies and glued ourselves to the television for Saturday Morning Cartoons.  They may have been in black and white...at my house anyway...but they live on in vibrant technicolor in my memories.  I am so excited to have been a part of Tammy's cartoon tag swap.  I wasn't going to post any of my tags yet, but it's been fun to get a hint of what the other crafters have made.  So many different crafting styles will be represented and I can't wait to see them all!  I have plans to string a garland in my office...on a yellow tape measure. (Tammy knows why...see her blog post Now I Know My ABCs. )

Just a Sneak Peek...
Quick Draw McGraw!
Remember the repeating background...the same cactus and mountains over and over...and over!

The Back of the Tag
I did a different cartoon on each tag.

Yakky Doodle wasn't one of my favorites...but seeing him again brought back an old memory...
Isn't my little sister a cutie?
When my sister Patti was very small, she had the squawkiest, raspiest voice.  So for years we called her Yakky Doodle.  His little ducky voice was so sweet...especially when he would ask "Are you my Mama?"  I had totally forgotten this.  I am so grateful for another childhood memory restored.

Top Cat!
Top Cat was a favorite of mine when I was about 6 or 7 years old.  Back then we didn't have garbage pickup and all our trash was burned in a big barrel.  But we stored the trash in those metal cans with lids.  I remember dancing around the trash can banging the lids together like cymbals...just like Top Cat did to call his gang to a meeting.  Just another memory fragment...another odd-shaped piece put in place in the 5000 piece puzzle that is my life.

What was your guilty pleasure?
And what kind of cereal did you slurp down in front of the TV?

Pink and Silver Bedroom tree...and a Tag Swap!

Pink and Silver...
Although I love my vintage Christmas to be as Red and White as possible...there is just something about vintage Pink and Silver.  There is a kind of 60's elegance about the color combination that is hard to resist.  So a few years ago I began decorating my bedroom with pink and silver decorations.

My bigger tree.
Most of the glass ornaments are vintage, but I used a lot of sparkly Wal*mart snowflakes...
And a few aqua Shiny-Brites as accent.

What started the whole pink and silver thing...

...Two pretty pink and silver corsages.
I use these for the tree toppers.

Half of my dresser.  I love birds and nests.
The little nest is in a top hat

Second half of dresser.
I added blue birds and painted a sparkly blue house to accent the pink.

My night stand is a little blurry.
I used 3 boxes of  tiny Shiny-Brite balls on the two-foot silver tree.
The downside of trees in your bedroom...falling asleep with the lights on...
then fumbling for the plugs at 2:00 a.m. =D

A Very Cherry Tag Swap...
This year I participated in the Christmas Tag swap at It's A Very Cherry World!
My swap partner was Toni from Blue Mountain Rise .
Side one of the tag I made for Toni.
It's hanging on my kitchen Candy Tree...
next to my favorite ornie...a sparkly Diet Coke can.

Side two.

The cute and yummy goodies I received from Toni!
(Some of the hand-wrapped chocolate didn't make it until the picture...lol!)
This has been such a fun experience.
I've really enjoyed meeting new bloggers this way.
Thanks again, Sue, for the opportunity to participate and meet Toni.

It's a crispy blue morning on the Wasatch Front.
Enjoy your morning where ever you may be.
