Thrifting Finds!

Just a Few Little Treasures...
I seldom make it to yard sales or estate sales...so I know I'm probably missing out on a lot of treasures...but Utah yard sales tend to be baby-gear related.  You really have to look past the car seats and plastic playhouses to find...more baby stuff.  If I see a sale at a "Granny" house, I will probably stop.  So I shop yard sales the lazy way...I wait until they drop the stuff off at the Deseret Industries or Savers.  I have come across a few fun things over the past few weeks.
What's New?
Adorable Owl Jar...looks like he has mischief on his mind!

I loved the touches of color on his wing tips.
He's a "Made in Japan" cutie...only 50 cents.

Fun Kitchen Miscellany...the nut chopper was from the Marching Band Yard Sale for $1.

The back of the drinking straw box is as cute as the front.

I like buying empty greeting card boxes.
I have an antique hutch that I arrange like store shelves with Christmas "Products."

I love the Candy Cane font on the sides of the box.

One of the vendors at Treasures Antique Mall sews her vintage buttons to kids playing cards.
I know some of you collect the card games.
Wouldn't they make cute gifties for blogging buddies?

I buy one or two of these every time I drop by.
Too cute to take the buttons off!

Thank you, Elizabeth!
Elizabeth of Creative Breathing sent me some patriotic goodies
to make a festive party hat!

Not too bad for a first try!
Thank you!

Well, this was just a quick post...I have so many crafting ideas running relays through my head right now.  I hope I can get something done.  Tune in later! =D

Thanks for Visiting!

  12. My dearest friend,
What a touching new header, Shirley! I love the way you have featured your grandmothers. I know you have such a love and deep gratitude to them both. We have both been so very blessed with amazing grammas!

I am one of those lazy bargain hunters who always heads to thrift shops before neighborhood garage sales. First of all, garage sales are always at the crack of dawn and, secondly, it's usually too hot to muddle around in someone's driveway. I guess I'm a big wimp!

You have found some wonderful treasures and those buttons on children's playing cards are so incredibly sweet!

Thank you, my sweet friend, for the kind comment you posted on my blog. I know you are a woman who loves God...It's so clear to see! I, too, want to live my life honoring Him in everything I do. It is such a joy stitching things up for others and, I agree, when that still small voice whispers in our ears...We need to respond.

Thank you for your friendship...You have blessed me so abundantly!

Looks like you had way too much fun ;o)

I'd love to find treasures like those at our thrift shops out here....not a chance!

I got your pennant....it's adorable, thank you so much for all the love you put into it. I'll be putting mine together today with Sandy, she's coming over so I can help her with her graphics.

  17. Hi Shirley!
Thank you for your wonderful comment on my blog! It was fun hearing about your $5 challenge for your neighbor's Christmas gift. Have you seem Jenny's "Criss Cross Coasters" on her Allsorts Blog? I have made them for gifts so many many times. They are fun, easy and inexpensive to make. Everyone I have given them to has been so pleased. I learned how to make them about 10 years ago and, I'm sure, everyone in my family has a set of them now.
I hope you have a great week, my dearest friend!
    Blessings,
    Carolynn xo

  18. I have that exact same nut chopper! The lid on mine is silver, because the paint is all gone. I just knew it must have been red once to match the wooden knob, so it's fun to see yours and see what it looked like originally!

PS-those button cards are DARLING! Which antique mall are they in? I'm going to UT to visit family next month and I may need to stop and shop!
